CHARLIE -Jewelry Maker
Ric Charlie is
an accomplished self-taught, multi-talented Navajo artist. He is
of the Black Street Wood People and Edgewater clans. He is originally
from Tuba City, AZ and has been in the art business for approximately
27 years.
Ric has taken his traditional tufa stone casting to the highest
degree of excellence and although he is most noted for his exquisite
jewelry, he also paints and sculpts.
He has achieved much recognition and has been awarded numerous awards
at various art shows throughout his career. The most recent being
Best of Show and Best of Division two years consecutively
in 1999 and 2000 at the Navajo Show held at the Museum
of Northern Arizona.
For many years, he has won several prestigious awards at Santa
Fe Indian Market which include Best of Show , Best
of Division, Best of Classification and Most
Creative Design to name a few.
Rics jewelry exemplifies the work of a true master and is
sought out by many. He has influenced and taught other renowned
jewelers the tufa stone casting process, as well as children and
other interested parties.
His latest achievement was being chosen to represent NACA
(Native Americans for Community Action) on their 30th Anniversary
with a poster which depicts a strong message of unity
amongst all men on earth.
In these recent years, he has found that his passion has leaned
more towards painting and sculpting.
