SHENDO -Jemez Potter
Roberta
Shendo, and her husband Juan Chavez, make very nice wedding vases
using all traditional materials. Juan makes the pots in his own
characteristic unusual shapes and Roberta paints and stone-polishes
them. In most cases in the pueblos, it is the potter who puts their
name on the pot but breaking with tradition, it is Roberta who signs
all their pottery. Perhaps this is because it is she who has the
paintbrush in her hand when the time for signing arrives.
