LULA BROWN -Weaver

Lula brown has been an active weaver since the 1960’s. She is quite famous for her beautiful miniature rugs. She also makes classic revival, pictorial, Ye’ii, raised outline and storm pattern rugs. She resides in the Crystal area of the Navajo reservation and was born circa 1950. She is the daughter of Betty and Kee Bia and has 4 sisters, Louise Bia Yazzie, Ella Yazzie, Elouise Bia and Susie Bia. Her husband is Herman Brown. Lula has 3 children, Derwin Brown, Shawnelle Brown and Jethro Brown.
Lula has won prizes for her beautiful rugs at the Inter-tribal Indian Ceremonial in Gallup New Mexico. In 1995, she took a first prize for a miniature Storm Pattern rug. Her favorite designs are Fox Dancers, snowflakes and lightning.
Lula Weaves mostly miniatures in many regional styles and historic revival designs. She learned to weave from her aunt Della Woody and her mother, Betty Bia.
